1. Korigad Fort

Korigad Fort is a beautiful hill fort located near Lonavala, standing at around 3050 feet above sea level. Built in the 15th century and later captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1657, the fort played an important role in protecting trade routes in the Konkan region. 2. Ratangad Fort

Ratangad Fort is a magnificent hill fort located near Bhandardara in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. Standing at approximately 4,255 feet above sea level, this 400 year old fort was captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and played an important role in protecting trade routes in the region. Surrounding by lush Sahyadri mountains, the fort offers breathtaking panoramic views of peaks like Alang, madan and Kulang.
One of the most unique attractions of Ratangad is the famous " Nedhe" a naturally formed hole in the rock that frames the sky beautifully and attracts trekkers and photographers.The trek is moderately challenging and becomes especially magical during monsoon and winter when the region turns misty and green.
3. Mahipatgad Fort

Mahipatgad Fort is one of the largest and most unexplored hill forts in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. Situated at an altitude of around 3100 feet in the Sahyadri range, this massive fort is hidden deep inside dense forest, making it a true offbeat destination for trekking lovers.
Historically, the fort was under the rule of the Marathas and later captured by the British. It is believed that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj included it in his Konkan defense system due to its strategic location. One of the most unique features of Mahipatgad is its six ancient entrance gates, each facing different directions. Avchitgad Fort is a lesser known hill fort located near Roha in Raigad district of Maharashtra. Surrounded by greenery and village landscapes, this fort offers a calm and refreshing trekking experience away from heavy crowds. It is believed to have been an important watch point during the Maratha period, helping to protect the Konkan trade routes.

5. Karnala Fort

Karnala Fort is a historic hill fort located inside the Karnala Bird Sanctuary in Raigad district. Though it is close to Mumbai and Pune, it remains less crowded compared to famous forts. The fort is known for its tall rock pinnacle that stands dramatically at the top.
Historically, Karnala Fort was an important watchtower controlling trade routes of the Konkan region. It later came under the rule of the Marathas and then the British. The trek is moderate and passes through dense forest, making it refreshing and adventurous.
